PASADENA, California (June 29, 2021) – On the back of a successful Conference run and playoff appearance the 2005 Girls academy squad starts their next phase of their development under a new coach, Barry Ritson, heading into the 2021/22 Season, assisted by New Elite Program Director Michael Quigley.

“I am excited and motivated to ensure the Girls on our 2005 Squad get all of the resources and support they need to be successful in a really challenging age group” Ritson said. “This team has tools to be a force Nationally and will be evaluated by some of the top colleges in the country over the next 12 months.”

Ritson returns to the field after a brief hiatus where he focused on the overall health and growth of the organization in his role as CEO. His experience includes success at a several levels of the game. A leader of older girls successfully navigating the college recruitment landscape he has coached dozens of players that have gone on to play at some of the top colleges in the country including Stanford, UCLA, U of Oregon and Oregon State to name a few. Players have progressed to the Pro game with Daniella Flores (Club America, Liga MX Feminil), Jazmin Jackmon (Houtson Dash, NWSL) and Chloe Castanada (Houston Dash, NWSL) being drafted or signed, and being Inducted into the WPSL Hall of Fame.

Ritson is a well-respected coach within the US Soccer Federation boasting a Network career with US Soccer as an Assistant Coach with the USWNT U-23 winning the Nordic Cup back-to-back (Under Head Coach BJ Snow), holding a role as the PAC-12 USWNT Scout, culminating with being named the Head Coach for the U15 Squad in games vs Netherlands in 2019.

Ritson holds the highest licenses available through both US Soccer and United Soccer Coaches, including the Academy Director License, USSF ‘A’ License, NSCAA Premier, Advanced DOC, Master Coaching License, as well as a Coaching For Performance Degree.

The 2005 Squad boasts a squad filled with quality, with both Megan Santa Cruz and Radisson Banks being called in for USYNT Opportunities recently.

Ritson will start with the team officially on July 1, but has already started planning for the upcoming season and is on the lookout for a few players to fill out the roster.
